A self professed lover of surfing GWS was born from a love of surfings history, a yearning for a quiver of boards and an incessant need to constantly draw.
Creating boards that I could ride and a board for all conditions, my need for a quiver of surfboards quickly became my obsession. Every surfboard I’ve ever owned displayed my art and the amalgamation of these three pursuits has developed into what I affectionately call, my dream.
With a degree in History, many years spent as an art teacher, over a decade spent perfecting the craft of building and shaping boards and never a day without a surf, its the truest expression of myself.
The process starts with research. There are many board designs and templates out there and I do not use them. My boards are researched and designed by me. From the measurements, to the template, to the frame, to the rails, to the tail. I surf and I know exactly what I want and exactly the type of board to make for any condition.
I use paulownia wood, its lightweight and its a perfect medium to display my art. The construction of the surfboard takes about 4 weeks and every part from start to finish is created by me.
Each board is built around a hollow wooden frame and handcrafted and shaped. From long boards, single fins, fish boards, you name it, I’ve been inspired to make it.
Its also kinder to the environment. I use sustainable timbers and many of the boards will now be glassed using environmentally friendly resins.
